The Marine Prediction System (SIDIK) is an information system that displays data and information on research results and observations carried out by the Center for Marine Research and Observation (BROL) online. SIDIK aims to enhance data use efficiency by facilitating the assessment of user data utilization activities.

The challenge

SIDIK is an application dashboard used in government. Most of the users are technology blind with ages above 30 years. But the client wants the application to look modern like other currently available applications. One of the biggest challenges is making UI improvements without confusing old users with the new interface.

Approach

There are several ways to make UI enhancements with current interfaces. Some of the ways I do it are:

• Study the existing Information Architecture so that no information or data is left behind
• Benchmarking against other apps with different design styles
• Make sure the target user can use the application according to the specified user persona

Make it simple

When a user wants to create an account, the user is faced with many forms to fill out. Filling out this form is a business requirement on the company's part but is not matched by the convenience of users who have to fill out many documents at once. My solution is to make the account registration session into several stages so that users are not confused and lazy to fill out forms. However, we can still achieve business needs because users continue to fill in all data.

Design Improvement

I refreshed the dashboard view by creating a different design style than before. Some things I consider before deciding on a design style are knowing how the existing brand guidelines are, how the product communicates with users, and the target users it has.
